Season I: Part One — Preparing the Soil — Late August

Some stories are told with words. Others are told with dirt under the fingernails.

Meet André. A farmer in the Lautrecois, growing pink garlic on the same hillside for three generations. And meet Caramelo, his dog — who sniffs out moles far more readily than garlic cloves, but who’s learning, same as the rest of us.

Starting today, I’m bringing you along with them, season after season, in a little illustrated comic strip that smells of soil, of the old lime tree, and of soup simmering in the evening. No lessons, no manuals — just André telling it his own way, with the accent, the humor, and the warmth of the South of France.

And you’ll see: without even realizing it, you’ll soon know why a clove is planted point-up toward the sky, why you never throw away the flower stalk, and why a well-braided string of garlic can’t be learned from a book…

… well. Almost.
